Nothing is more annoying than Apple Music blasting out of your speakers when you least expect it. Whether you’re driving, working, or just trying to relax, autoplay can be a real nuisance. But don’t worry! Stopping Apple Music from auto-playing is easy. Follow these simple steps, and you’ll be in control of your tunes in no time.

Why Does Apple Music Auto-Play?

Apple Music’s autoplay feature is designed to keep the music going once your playlist or album ends. This can be great when you’re in the mood for non-stop music, but not when you want peace and quiet. Fortunately, you can stop it.

Disable Apple Music Autoplay on iPhone & iPad

If your iPhone or iPad keeps playing music when you don’t want it to, here’s how to fix it:

  1. Open the Music app.
  2. Play a song (any song will do).
  3. Tap on the Now Playing bar at the bottom.
  4. Look for the infinity symbol (∞) in the lower-right corner.
  5. Tap it to turn off autoplay. When turned off, it will no longer be highlighted.

That’s it! Apple Music will now stop playing automatically when your playlist or album ends.

Turn Off Apple Music Autoplay in CarPlay

Does Apple Music start playing every time you get in the car? Here’s how to stop it:

  1. Go to Settings on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll down and tap Screen Time.
  3. Select Content & Privacy Restrictions.
  4. Go to Allowed Apps and turn off CarPlay. (This disables CarPlay, but there are other options below!)

If you want to keep CarPlay but stop autoplay specifically in your car:

  1. Check your car’s Bluetooth settings. Some cars have an auto-play option that you can disable.
  2. Go to Settings > Bluetooth on your iPhone.
  3. Find your car and tap the i button.
  4. Look for an Autoplay setting and disable it if available.

Some cars don’t give you this option, but don’t worry—there’s still hope!

Prevent Apple Music from Auto-Playing via Automation

Another way to stop autoplay is by using the Shortcuts app:

  1. Open the Shortcuts app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap Automation at the bottom.
  3. Tap New Automation and select CarPlay or Bluetooth.
  4. Set the action to Pause Apple Music when connected.
  5. Tap Done.

Now, every time your iPhone connects to your car, it will pause Apple Music automatically instead of playing.

Stop Safari from Auto-Playing Apple Music Links

Ever clicked an Apple Music link and it started blaring music? Here’s how to prevent Safari from auto-playing:

  1. Go to Settings on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll down and tap Safari.
  3. Look for Motion & Auto-Play.
  4. Turn off Auto-Play Video Previews.

Now, Apple Music links won’t surprise you anymore!

Stop Apple Music from Playing Next Songs

If Apple Music keeps playing random songs you didn’t select, it might be because of Up Next. Here’s what to do:

  1. Open the Music app.
  2. Tap on Now Playing.
  3. Look for the list icon (three lines) in the bottom right.
  4. Review the list and remove unwanted songs from Up Next.
  5. Turn off the infinity symbol (∞) to disable autoplay.

Now, only the music you want to hear will play.

Final Thoughts

Apple Music’s autoplay can be convenient, but it’s not always welcome. Luckily, stopping it is simple and quick. Whether you adjust settings in the Music app, tweak your car’s Bluetooth, or use an automation shortcut, there are plenty of ways to take control.

Try these fixes, pick the one that works best for you, and enjoy your music—on your own terms!
